Background History of KOTETI
Kolowa Technical Training Institute (KOTETI) is situated in Lushoto District Council in TANGA Region. The Kolowa Technical Training Institute is owned by ELCT-North Eastern Diocese with full Registration number KOTETI/HAS/249 . The mission of our Diocese is to proclaim the Gospel of God as revealed through the life and work of our Lord Jesus Christ. With our proclamation, we intend to reach non-Christians and help Christians to live as true followers of Jesus so that the church becomes a genuine expression of the kingdom of God here and now. Together with other Christians, we share the hope of resurrection and the fulfillment of life in eternity. The history of the College can be traced back in the year 1961 when the Lutheran church bought the famous Magamba country club at which Usambara Trade School (UTS) was opened. The aim of this college was to offer vocational training courses in tailoring, carpentry, metal works, and mechanics and shoe making. avatar-3 Principal The same year a secondary school was opened at UTS. During this period new buildings were constructed a kilometer away from UTS. The Secondary school moved to the new campus and was named campus B. The UTS was named Campus A.On 9th of February, 1963 the buildings of the secondary school were officially inaugurated at campus B. In 2003 the ELCT-NED sent the first letter to the Minister of education and culture requesting to get back Magamba secondary school for purpose of establishing a University college. In 2005 Magamba Secondary school was officially returned to the ELCT- NED. On 25th November 2005, the executive council of the NED declared that the University College should be named after the first African Bishop of the Diocese. Thus on 28th October 2007, this institution was inaugurated as SEBASTIAN KOLOWA UNIVERSITY COLLEGE (SEKUCo) of Tumaini University. On 30th September, 2012 SEKUCo was transformed into a full –fledged higher learning institution known as SEBASTIAN KOLOWA MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY (SEKOMU). In 2019 SEKOMU ceased enrollment due to various obligations from TCU. 2021 The executive council of NED agreed that campus B of the University be used to establish technical training Institutions and therefore found a College known as KOLOWA TECHNICAL TRAINING INSTITUTE (KOTETI) and the first program proposed to be established was Diploma in pharmaceutical sciences.
This year 2022 the Diocese has planned to establish a Technical training Institute at Magamba area in Lushoto. The purpose of this institute is to bring together trainees of different disciplines and professions to develop personal qualities and skills that are needed to work competently, compassionately and in harmony with other professions so that together we provide quality and reliable public services. To begin with, the Executive council of ELCT- NED has approved establishment of Pharmaceutical sciences training at Diploma level; therefore this progress report serves to inform the Pharmacy Council in Tanzania as to where we are after the two inspection visits already conducted so far.
